i can't move the mountains for you.

Last night I caught a glimpse of  a really stellar documentary called "This Way of Life." The film pretty much depicts the lives of Peter Karena,a horse whisper/hunter, his wife Colleen, their six children, and their struggle to maintain a simple and natural lifestyle in the Rauhine Ranges of New Zealand. Left profitless after their fifty horses are stolen, and homeless when a supposed "enemy" ( I uses this term lightly) sets their home on fire, the family must adapted to a new, more modern, "capitalist" way of life.

The film focuses a lot on the idea of family and relationships between people, nature, and animals. I became enchanted by the Karena children and this unbelievable intimacy they had with the wild. Completely unafraid the children race their massive stallions on a near by beach. They spend their days helping their father and mother clean, hunt, prepare food, and care of the horses and other animals.

And while I was only able to catch the last forty minutes of the film, I can not wait till it airs again! It is really refreshing to see that somewhere tucked behind all the city dirt and factory smoke, there is still a glimpse of organic life. REAL TALK
So for all of you who have not watched "This Way of Life," make sure to check the Documentary Channel for the latest showings...or just buy it on DVD! I am sure you will LOVE it...and if you don't YOU ARE A LOSER AND PROBABLY DO NOT HAVE ANY FRIENDS BECAUSE YOU SMELL...what am I saying....there is no if!

Geronimo.

Yes. Yes, it is that time of year, again. The time your heart skips a beat when you hear the ice cream truck coming down the street. The time every magazine by the checkout line seems to be titled " Get Your BEST Beach Bod in 2 Weeks." The time when you see seven Nair commercials a day, each scrutinizing your pale skin and unshaven legs!
Yup, that time has finally come and if you are like me you are not exactly excited about showing everyone your new neon cheetah print string bikini! Do not get me wrong! As a self proclaimed feminist I am all for women embracing their bodies and feeling beautiful and comfortable in their own flesh, but let us be honest here. During  "Bikini Season," as it has been labeled, even the most confident, proud, and strongest girls/women seem to rip their bodies to shreds and stress over their looks. And by first hand experience, I know that even a "Dayyum gurl! You look'n Hella Good" from Ryan Gosling would not make me feel any more secure!
However, I am also a strong believer in modern medicine and for that reason i have the perfect remedy to cure you (and myself) of the Beach Bod Blues! No...it's not a spoon full of sugar. Rather, a beautiful swimsuit and summer dress!Preferably one from the ultra-cool brand Geronimo!

Geronimo was created by Jenny Geronimo Reyes, a Los Angeles based designer who traveled and styled musicians like Jenny Lewis and the Whispertown 2000. Her 2012 swimsuit collection is undeniably dreamy, mysterious, and hip. I don't know about you but every time I look at these photographs i just want to run through a field of daisies...in the desert...with bunnies!

Reyes's 2012 collection is as cool if not cooler ( FREEZING) than her past swimwear collections which had a very retro-1960s vibe. This collection, however, was reportedly inspired by the desert and the Dust Bowl Dance.

P.S- I had trouble accessing the Geronimo website and was not able to get the photos i wanted for the post! However, these Polariod shots are just as dreamy and magnificent!

All photographs were taken from the Geronimo website and google.com.

Be my little baby

My obsession with Sofia Coppola has gone on for many years. At times it has got very serious and...very dangerous. However, after a needed intervention and some time in the loony bin, I have managed to appreciate Mrs. Coppola and her films at a Fan Girl level.
My obsession started many years ago when i saw The Virgin Suicides!
If you have not seen/read/ heard about The Virgin Suicides yet ( yes you should feel very guilty about this) it is a stellar novel by Jeffery Eugenides published in the early 90s! The novel takes place in 1970s Michigan and revolves around the Lisbon family and their five daughters: 13-year-old Cecilia, 14-year-old Lux, 15-year-old Bonnie, 16-year-old Mary, and 17-year-old Therese. The story is told as a flashback from the point of view of one the neighborhood boys obsessed with the mystique of the Lisbon sisters. And as the title suggests, the novel revolves around the sisters' suicides and several other things that i will not mention because you are not worthy enough I do not want to spoil it for you!

However, in 1999 Sofia Coppola adapted the novel into a film featuring Kirsten Dunst, Kathleen Turner, and many many more lovely actors and actresses ( DANNY FREAK'N DEVITO)! The film is exceptional and for me, and hopefully for many other individuals, The Virgin Suicides has become a classic movie/book that I seem to read/watch any time I feel like shit...or really when school starts!

Alec Eiffel is in my head. He won't leave, but i kinda don't want him to.

FACT: on this day, June 8, James Madison introduces twelve amendments to the United States Constitution. Aren't you happy the other two did not pass?

Anyway, this article has nothing to do with James Madison which is kinda disappointing because I think he was a pretty interesting fella...or am I confusing him with John Jay...
But enough about dead old presidents and Federalists. Lets talk about clothes. Moreover, lets talk about clothes from the 90s.
Ya see, I do this weird thing where the type of clothing i prefer to wear changes with the seasons. Its not really something I have ever thought about or ever even realized until a couple of months ago when someone told me I looked like a 1950's housewife ( thanks?). With these unconscious changes of style ( or really preference of clothing) I indulge myself in the movies, music, books, and ideas of that particular era. Typically during the winter I surrender to 1960s bell bottoms, transparent blouses, boots, and of course velvet everything and anything. Then comes spring where I indulge in beehives, cat-eyes, long skirts, and collars from the 1950s and 1960; its the 1920s-40s during the fall and right now, for summer, its the 90s.
And I guess you could say these changes are good since I spend a lot of time learning about whatever I feel like. It really opens all closed doors.

However, I could not help myself today. So here you go my darlings. Here are some truly amazing photos of...I guess you could can it inspiration! From one of the most kick ass singers/girls/bands I have ever laid my eyes on  (Courtney Love!!!) to some of the coolest and most interesting sweet and sassy girls ( Winona Ryder) I cant get enough of them! And its not just the clothes...its the attitude. The I-don't-give-two-saltines-if-you-like-me-or-not type swag. The Ill-wear-what-I-wan't-and-say-what-i-want-when-i-want-to swag. Yep, these WOMEN (and men) got SWAGGER!

Is it true? please, please do tell me! girl, sit yo ass down!

CAUTION: the material you are about to read contains a large amount of pointless smiley faces and over-the-top excitement!

Hewow fellow readers ( hi! is anyone there?). I must say that today is a magnificent day to be alive! Why? Well, i am not really sure. I am just very excited for this weekend! :) Why? Well...since your asking. Its my birthday! No..its not what you think. I am not one of those people who absolutely loves birthdays because they get a bunch of presents ( although it is a perk) or because it was the day they we born..yada yada. :) Or if you go to my school, because your birthday is the only day you can find the decency or need to wear something other than ripped pajamas and sandals with socks (don't ask).To be completely and totally honest, i hate birthdays. Its the one day out of the entire year that I feel like I am actually dying instead of living (huh?) :)
Anyway. :) The reason i am excited for my birthday is because I am taking a trip to Chicago! Yep. I'm schlepping my ass all the way to the windy city! :) And I guess the most exciting part about the trip is that I will be traveling via train! I have never been on a train but i think you could say i have some experience with the Ol' iron horse! I live right next to a railway so I have a bit of an idea of what a train looks, feels, smells, sounds, and tastes like!
google images
I will be sure to inform your more about the trip and the train ride there! I am hopping to receive a new camera Saturday so I'll be posting some fabulous pictures, too!

P.S.-The camera i was using for my pictures has broken ( i.e why I am getting a new one) so here are some pictures I took a while ago!

P.S.S - First time exploring in Chicago! Any good ideas of where and what I should see/visit? Museums? Parks? Shopping? What are the best restaurants? have any suggestions...leave a comment below!

and all the cigarettes that i have never smoked

Happy Wednesday er-body You are officially two days away from the weekend, which for people my age (16) is really irrelevant since we are on summer break and out of hell school (unless you're one of those unfortunate souls who has been forced to go to *summer school* (or unless you're one of those unfortunate souls who has willingly signed up for it)). I'm almost positive, however, that sometime this weekend your are gonna wanna leave your home/workplace/school/cave and do a little exploring. Which brings me to today's topic...pants.
Whether your planning on visiting your local farmer's market, walking the dog, or HITN' UP DU CLUB pants are the way to go. I mean come on, who does not like pants? (raises hand, shyly) ME. I dislike pants very much and find them very uncomfortable, but then again i am more of a skirt or dress kind of girl ( a big ungrade from my skort days).

However these pants are the only exception! Yep that's right, girlfriend! I love me some sparkly, bright, cropped, patterned, tapered pants!

I am especially in love with these Emanuel Ungaro cigarette-slouchy-tie-die-tropical pants! They make me wanna drink fruit punch and wear a bowl of fruit on my head! And don't even get me started on the Alice+Olivia high waist vintage pants. They remind me of  peddler pants, popularized by Sandra Dee and Audrey Hepburn in the 50s and 60s, and to my liking, they seem to be coming back in style.

I personally have fancied these pants for a long time and would desperately search for them every time I entered a vintage or thrift shop. The one Audrey Hepburn is wearing in the left photograph reminds me of a lovely table cover my mom placed in our kitchen! A similar, very 1960s out-riding-a-bike-in-the-park type pants could be seen in the Steve Alan Spring 2012 show.

However, nothing can compare to these stellar Diesel pants. Sparkle, sag, and all. So go out there and get yo self some crazy pants! Be fierce. Like Tyra Banks F.I.E.R.C.E!
